Teaching or Indoctrination?

The following is an article from an a fellow citizen who shares her concerns about Common Core, published by permission:

By Anonymous

indoctrination-134-1-480440When my conservative friends told me that public schools had become indoctrination centers, I didn’t think much about it. I believed what they were saying and noticed many parents were taking their children out of the public school system. My children are grown, so the public school system was no longer my concern, right? Wrong.

The need for a part-time job arose and in general, it was slim pickings. The school district had several part-time teacher aide positions. I applied and was hired to help kindergarten, fourth and fifth grade students improve their reading skills.

What kids are being taught is now my concern and my conservative friends’ descriptions of the public school system are confirmed.

Politically correct, liberal environmental messages are replete throughout the required materials I use every day.
For instance:

• Burning oil and coal pollutes the air
• Supplies of fossil fuels are running out and “will be gone soon”
• Ride a bicycle more to save gas
• Cut energy use
• The polar ice caps are melting
• Anyone who champions wind energy is a hero

None of the ideas are bad in and of themselves. The problem is context.

Kids are not told the whole story. They are not told that fossil fuel consumption in the U.S. has gone down over the past decade, that there are enough oil resources in the Intermountain West to meet U.S. need for 100 years!

When told that the ice caps are melting, they are not told that this has happened before, that the earth goes through natural cycles of warming and cooling.

We live in the western U.S. where riding a bicycle everywhere is not a safe option for kids so they are left feeling unnecessary concern about pollution.

Samso, Denmark is hailed as heroic for using wind energy to become energy independent. What the kids don’t know is that Samso is a tiny island off the coast of Denmark that is uniquely positioned to have wind 24/7/365. With a population of only 4,300, the 21 wind turbines that it uses to generate energy are adequate for a farming community. Kids are led to believe that this example will fit any community.

In most instances, I have verbally interjected information to give students the full story but I know most aides do not think about it. When I noticed a book that stated that South Dakota was in the southern United States, I mentioned it to a colleague who seemed unconcerned. I passed it along to my supervisor. She didn’t seem concerned either. They couldn’t do anything to change it so why bother? It never occurred to them that they could simply correct this error by showing students a map!

Will Common Core be any better? Of course not. The ground work is already laid for its furthering of the liberal agenda.

Teachers, Your jobs are at stake!

Posted by on Mar 26, 2013 in Education, National News | 1 comment

Teachers, your jobs are at stake! I’ll tell you how in a moment.teachers

First I want to say that I know you have been under a lot of pressure having to learn about Common Core and how it will affect your teaching, your students, and your career. I know the passion that you bring to the classroom, and I’ve watched it fizzling out with frustration.. And I would like to say “Thank you!” for being the middle man between management and parents for the sake of teaching the child! As a parent, I truly thank you.

As I have studied Common Core for the last two years, I have not been able to pin point exactly “why” it has been necessary to retrain good teachers to teach a curriculum, especially since it was only “Standards” that were supposed to have changed. You and I were told that “teachers could teach what they wanted and how they wanted.” And here in America that sounds great! The freedom to explore subjects in a creative way! Until you hit that nasty wall of end-of-year testing.

With the implementation of No Child Left Behind more than a decade ago, you found that your job was suddenly on the line – based solely on testing scores! Before CC you had to teach to the test, and if those children failed, your school could be penalized, and your job would be on the line. Now with the Common Core Standards, the stakes have just been raised! The assessments will be available next year. And from what I have found, if the teacher, the principal, or a school administrator looks at the test, it will be counted as unusable and will downgrade your school to the point where it could close down for good. The tests themselves will be technology-driven, and will have compressive questions on the tests. No longer will the tests show how smart a child is, but how dumb a child is. By the 7th grade, children will be dumbed-down in math, English, language arts, science, critical thinking skills, creativity, and reading. On purpose, and not by you.

This week, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel closed down 54 schools because of failing scores. Officials in Lansing, Michigan cut art, music and physical education, to accommodate budget cuts.

I wonder if you look at the children in your classroom and ever think, “These children will determine my outcome in the near and far future?” Have you ever turned and looked at the administrators or Unions and thought, “These individuals will determine my outcome in the near and far future?” It has finally come through to me that you, as teachers, are being set up to fail, as part of the break down of the public education system. Under this new system, you are meant to fail. Your job is going to become a revolving career choice, with thousands of applicants that are ready to take your place. The noble “calling” of “teacher” – the unique individual with the gift to guide young minds to countless “aha” moments and deeper understanding of the world around them – is to be replaced with the ordinary job of education facilitator, a worker bee that serves its short time delivering the state’s curriculum, rapidly burns out, and is replaced by another worker bee. To this new system, you are expendable.

Have you heard of the term “Lean management?” Have you, as a teacher, been asked to take on additional administrative positions? Have you been overwhelmed with the continuous classes that you need to take to learn the latest technique, or learn about the newest curriculum? It has almost become monotonous with the ever-revolving door of changing ideas about how, who and what to teach! And that is what I mean by your being set up to fail. Combine that with scores, grades, or rankings of your schools, as well as the lowering of your pay scale. It is all by design. Here are some of the details, from an article entitled “Lean production – what’s really hurting public education” :

“The primary goal of forced rankings is, however, to shrink the workforce and see how far remaining workers can be stretched before they crack. Emiliani advises managers to “develop an action plan” for the “bottom ten percent” of workers, and if there’s no measurable improvement in performance, “the associate would be subject to involuntary separation.” For the best of the workers—more work! As Bill Gates proposed last year in the Washington Post, policymakers should “get more students in front of top teachers by identifying the top 25 percent of teachers and asking them to take on four or five more students.”

Your value as a teacher is being tested, and if you happen to survive past the average one year experience of teaching, you will certainly notice the increase in students in your classroom the next year. I highly, highly recommend this article as it goes into much more detail than I ever could.

This is about collapsing the system, top down, inside out, and teachers are just the worker bees to do it! All in the name of helping children, too busy to fully investigate, while teaching from the provided resources that devalue the individual. Meanwhile the children are the victims and will end up being the working slaves of corporations and the government.

Professor Lois Weiner from New Jersey City University, in New York, spoke passionately about her concerns for teachers in conjunction with the Race To The Top program, in the video below. Though I disagree with her politics, I definitely stand with her concerns for how teachers are being set up and used. More and more teachers that I have come across are confused and scared about how the futures of their careers are being tied to the children they teach. They need to know about how Common Core will be used against them, and they will need support to fight it, if we are to save the noble profession of “teacher” from being downgraded to “facilitator of corporatist education”.

Senator Mike Lee’s push to infringe gun control laws

Posted by on Mar 26, 2013 in 2nd Amendment, National News, Utah State Headlines | 0 comments

Last Friday, Senator Mike Lee pushed to infringe upon those seeking gun control laws in the Senate. In an amendment to the Senate’s first budget proposal in 4 years, calls for a require super majority vote with any future bills that concern the 2nd Amendment. “It also requires that additional consideration should be given before passing legislation that alters one of our fundamental constitutional rights.

The legislation would have applied to the following:

Bans on so called “assault weapons”
Bans on high capacity magazines
Universal background checks that can only be enforced by a national registry
Establishment of a registry to track firearm purchases
Imposing a de facto ban on gun sales to veterans
This point of order could be waived by a 2/3 majority of the Senate.

In a released statement, Senator Lee made it quite clear that he is still standing with the peoples’ rights to bear arms and the Constitution as it stands.

“Americans are appalled by criminal acts of mass violence,” Sen. Lee said. “However, Americans also recognize that there are limits to the problems that can be solved with new legislation. The 2nd Amendment to the Constitution protects citizens’ rights to defend their own life, the lives of their loved ones, and the lives of the most vulnerable. This right speaks to history’s lesson that government cannot be in all places at all times, and history’s warning that we would not like to live under a government that tried. Government registration of firearms presents a threat to our 2nd Amendment rights. Such a registry would be no less offensive than one monitoring how individual citizens exercise their rights to free speech, association, religion, or any other constitutional right.”

Unfortunately, the following morning, the Amendment was voted down. But don’t assume that has stopped Senator Lee in his fight for Americans 2nd Amendment rights. In the video below Senator Lee answered a caller’s question about what he (Lee), was doing to “block efforts to curtail 2nd Amendment rights?”

Yesterday, media reports spread about a another filibuster that has been planned by Senators’ Lee, Ted Cruz, and Rand Paul, on Senator Harry Reid’s gun control bill that asks for more extensive bank ground checks, interstate gun trafficking, and could limit magazine capacities.

In a letter sent to Reid’s office from the 3 Conservative Senators stated ” We will oppose the motion to proceed to any legislation that will serve as a vehicle for any additional gun restrictions”

Today, the White House shot back to the Senators, to not get in the way, warning them that it would be unfortunate to send that type of message to the victims who have been affected by gun violence.

Apparently the White House and Harry Reid, haven’t received the message that “infringement” on the American citizen’s right to bare arms is not to be crossed. Americans have sent that message loud and clear, with their rights to purchase such tools of freedom. thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/290383-white-house-warns-gop-against-filibuster-on-guns

I strongly support Senators’ Lee, Cruz and Paul as they continue to stand against a bully system that would love to destroy the Constitution!

Government vs Parents: The Tug-of-War over our Children

Posted by on Mar 18, 2013 in Education, Family, Featured, Lisa's Personal Insights, National News, Religion, Utah State Headlines | 0 comments

Parents your children are in immediate danger! Stranger danger is prevalent! Local, State, and Federal agencies are coming after your children, sighting “experts” and “studies,” to demoralize the role of a parent in a child’s life.

Victorian Parents Educating ChildrenThe evidence is mounting and it’s past time that parents stand up as the leading experts and protectors of our children.

On March 3, 2013 CNSNews.com published a story about the Obama Administration submitting a legal brief to the United State Supreme Court in the case Hollingsworth v. Perry, which is disputing the Constitutionality of California’s Proposition 8.

“The Justice Department presented its conclusions about parenthood in rebutting an argument made by proponents of Proposition 8 that the traditional two-parent family, led by both a mother and a father, was the ideal place, determined even by nature itself, to raise a child.

“The Obama administration argues this is not true. It argues that children need neither a father nor a mother and that having two fathers or two mothers is just as good as having one of each.

“The [California] Voter Guide arguably offered a distinct but related child-rearing justification for Proposition 8: ‘the best situation for a child is to be raised by a married mother and father,’” said the administration’s brief submitted to the court by Solicitor General Donald B. Verrilli Jr.

“As an initial matter, no sound basis exists for concluding that same-sex couples who have committed to marriage are anything other than fully capable of responsible parenting and child-rearing,” the Department of Justice told the court.

“To the contrary, many leading medical, psychological, and social-welfare organizations have issued policy statements opposing restrictions on gay and lesbian parenting based on their conclusion, supported by numerous scientific studies, that children raised by gay and lesbian parents are as likely to be well adjusted as children raised by heterosexual parents.”

“The weight of the scientific literature strongly supports the view that same-sex parents are just as capable as opposite-sex parents,” says the administration. truthfrequencyradio.com/eric-holder-banning-homeschooling-doesnt-violate-fundamental-rights/

My article is not about the constitutionality of gay marriage. It is about the fact that the current administration believes that children are items, “human capital” if you will, for the benefit of the people. The terms “mother” and “father” are no longer valid, as the lines are being erased for gender identification. And with the eradication of those terms, so is the identity of the family, individual rights, and humanity.
At the same time, the Obama Administration is denying the request of a German family seeking political asylum in the United States, under Freedom of Religion. Uwe and Hannelore Romeike have 6 children, and have chosen to homeschool, because they felt that their Evangelical Christian beliefs were not being taught in schools. The current law, making homeschool illegal, was created in 1938 under the Hitler regime. It is because of this law that the parents’ role have been undermined and they have been fined, put in jail, and now face the state taking their children away. www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/03/15/obama-admin-trying-to-deport-german-evangelical-family-seeking-assylum-over-homeschooling/

This case is now headed to the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals. It could set a precedent on the legitimate, unalienable right of the parent to decide what is best in the upbringing of their child!

The Obama Administration has made it unequivocally clear that parental rights are on the chopping block. In a statement concerning the Romeike Family, Eric Holder said, “There is no fundamental liberty to homeschool. So long as a government bans homeschooling broadly and equally, there is no violation of your rights.” truthfrequencyradio.com/eric-holder-banning-homeschooling-doesnt-violate-fundamental-rights/

The government is clearly stepping on the toes of parents on how to teach their children. HSLDA lays out the argument on the dressing up of Totalitarianism, here: truthfrequencyradio.com/eric-holder-banning-homeschooling-doesnt-violate-fundamental-rights/

It is time for parents to take a stand for our children! These are not the only two examples of parental rights infringement, look at the outrage over Common Core! Parents should be considered experts in what their children should learn, not the government. Consider what is being taught as normal today; creationism is considered a pseudo science at best, population control is considered necessary to save planet earth, and boys and girls have no gender roles anymore and can, therefore, walk into bathrooms/locker rooms ‘if’ they feel that they are different.

I had one of my local School District Board members say that parents have no right to determine what their kids need to learn. Too may people, in places of power, believe parents are no longer the experts.

I’ll tell you what: I have been an expert on my children for over 17 years. I became an expert the minute I found out I was pregnant with each of them. My husband and I are the ONLY ones with God given authority over our children. Laws and regulation that are set up to control my children’s locations, education, and health, are in violation of my unalienable rights! I am an expert on what my children’s needs are in every aspect; educational, physical, spiritual and temporal. I know their names, their individual likes and dislikes, their favorite colors, what their favorite foods are, their goals and dreams, and even their natural talents. I am the mother of 5 beautiful, talented, gifted, smart, well balanced children. I am the Aunt of 9 equally beautiful, talented, gifted, well balanced children. I am a friend with numerous mothers with multiple children. I am a M.O.M (Mother of Many) – EXPERT!

I will no longer allow the belittling of who I am and what role I play as an adult in my children’s lives.

We are the stewards of these children, by the authority of God, through our unalienable rights. As a mom, I will stand in front of these children, protecting them from the tyrants that are trying to take them away from us! Keep your hands off my children! The government has forced us into playing this silly tug-of-war. But make no mistake, this is a war for our children, and we, as parents need to stand up, and raise our voices loud and clear. Our children’s souls depend on it!

Governor Herbert: Sign HB76!

Posted by on Mar 15, 2013 in 2nd Amendment, Lisa's Personal Insights, Utah State Headlines | 1 comment

The 2nd Amendment to the Bill of Rights reads: “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”
In today’s fight for freedom, states are declaring their sovereignty on every issue including the right for its citizens to bear arms. New York has limited its citizens in how many bullets a single magazine will hold. This law will hinder a single citizen if, heaven forbid, he or she would be surrounded by a group of 5 criminals all with loaded guns. Not only would the citizen be outnumbered by guns, but outnumbered by bullets as well. Any good gun owner knows that it’s not about killing the aggressor, but stopping the aggressor. There is a difference.

In California currently there are search and seizures of guns and firearms from lawful citizens, without warrants. In Colorado, tough laws of gun control are trying to pass the legislature. Amanda Collins a rape victim from Colorado, asked on record her state Representatives: “How does rendering me defenseless, protect you against you in a violent crime?” Her full story is here:

In order for Utah to remain a free state, Governor Herbert should not follow in the footsteps of his colleagues. The Liberal States that are limiting and taking away guns from legal owners are infringing on their rights.

The word “Infringe” is the most important word in the 2nd Amendment. In the Merriam-Webster Dictionary “infringe” means: 1) to encroach upon in a way that violates law or the rights of another 2) obsolete: defeat, frustrate.

Governors who pass gun control laws are in violation of the 2nd Amendment. By restricting the ownership of guns, governments can seize power and control, creating a tyrannical reign over the people. Governors who do this are also violating the natural law to protect one’s self, family, and property from being attacked.

In our great State of Utah, we are known for our self-reliance, and our ability to look after ourselves, our families, and our neighbors. This is a trait we inherited from our Pioneer ancestors! And we celebrate that self-reliant spirit every 24th of July!

Governor Herbert, we ask that you support our heritage, our traditions, our belief in God, and our right to bear and keep arms, by signing HB 76 the “Concealed Weapons Amendment”.

Through your leadership, you will show the nation that the citizens of Utah do not need to be governed by force, and that we can work to secure our rights! It is time for Utah to lead, not just in business, but in Freedom itself. Let us be that beacon unto our nation, shining bright, from our mountains!

Citizens please sign and pass this petition letting Governor Herbert know that we support his decision to sign HB 76 into law!
